Drive against opium cultivation
KHIMIYANG, Mar 03: With the objective of achieving zero per cent cultivation of Opium Changlang Deputy Commissioner Chanchal Yadav and SP Vijay Kumar have initiated for destruction of illicit opium cultivation in the district.
Around 26 acre of standing illicit opium was destroyed in Yanman and Khimiyang village of Khimiyang circle in the two days operation on March 1 and 2 conducted by the District Administration, Narcotics Control Board, Gauhati, civil Police, IRBN and CRPF.
The villagers themselves were supportive of the destruction work as resolution has already been passed by them to stop opium cultivation in their respective villages. Later interacting with the villagers the team also generated awareness involving the GB and villagers to stay away from opium cultivation in future. AR provides water storage tanks to villagers
ITANAGAR, Mar 03: Assam Rifles (AR) battalion located at Khonsa provided water storage tanks to Kunsa village under Longding district under military civic action programme “Operation Samaritan” on March one.

Fire guts 3 dwelling houses
ITANAGAR, Mar 03: Three dwelling houses were reduced to ashes in a fire accident that broke out at Injan village under Kharsang circle of Changlang district yesterday at around 2.30 pm.
The victims lost all of their belongings, including livestock in the fire. Electrical short circuit is suspected to be the reason for the fire, informed Kharsang Circle Unemployed Youth Association (KCUYA), who met the victims and distributed them relief materials.

the International Tourism Bourse (ITB) beginning at Berlin from March 5-

Parties to stage dharna

Two arrested
ITANAGAR, Mar 03: City police has arrested two persons in connection with Naharlagun police station case no. 35/14 registered under section 448/452/427/34 IPC R/W Section 27 Arms Act.
The case was registered by police after a written complaint was received from Muk Pertin, Advocate, Gauhati High Court, Itanagar Permanent Bench, Naharlagun for threatening him and intruding his house allegedly by a group of 10 to 15 persons equipped with arms and other lethal weapons.
“The two alleged accused have been arrested by observing all legal formalities and they were sent to Chief Judicial Magistrate,” city SP Seju P. Kuruvilla informed in a release.
Efforts are being made to arrest the other accused, the SP added.

Press bodies lift restriction, set conditions
ITANAGAR, Mar 03: After almost a month since the restriction of news related to Students Union Movement of Arunachal Pradesh was imposed, the Arunachal Press Club and Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists in a joint meeting today decided to lift the said restriction on certain terms and conditions.
After a threadbare meeting convened at the APC office earlier today, members of the two press bodies wrote to SUMA in response to their repeated pleas to lift the restriction.

Lawyers stage protest rally, demand adequate security

ITANAGAR, Mar 03: Clad with the professional attire hundreds of practicing lawyers of the state today hit the streets here protesting against repeated attacks on lawyers and professionals in the state particularly the recent attack on senior Advocate Muk Pertin by some miscreants.
The protest rally organized under the banner of Gauhati High Court Itanagar Permanent Bench Bar Association (GHCIPBBA), started marching from Akashdeep and culminated at Chief Minister Bungalow Niti Vihar.
Many were holding placards which read -
“Attack on advocate is a hindrance to the complete and independent judiciary” said anguish advocate Tony Pertin. He also appealed to the people to cooperate with judicial system as lawyers are performing their professional duty and nothing personal.

GHCIPBBA in its memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister highlighted their day today situation working under hostile condition. The bar association also claimed that whenever incident happened with lawyers involving influential persons, police are reluctant to act effectively. It requested the police authority to deal with iron hand with any criminals so that the independent judiciary system could be upheld.
In its demands to the authority, the association further sought for deployment of adequate paramilitary force outside the high court premises and at the residence of presiding officers so that legal professionals could discharge their duties without any apprehension.

Reported payment of fake LTS bill: AAPSU demands inquiry
ITANAGAR, Mar 03: In the wake of stalemate prevailing in the Directorate of Food and Civil Supplies at Papu Nallah, Naharlagun, an AAPSU team headed by president Kamta Lapung today visited the Directorate office to study the ground reality.
The office of Director, Food & Civil Supply has not been functioning properly since Janaury 25 after reported payment of fake LTS (land transport subsidy) bill amounting to Rs 24.51 crore against M/s DD Salt, M/s CCN Traders, M/s MP Enterprise and M/s Mamang Borang.
The payment was allegedly made to one Bola Pradhan, who allegedly holds the power of attorney of the aforesaid firms, without the knowledge of minister concerned as well as the state government of Arunachal Pradesh, AAPSU said.
AAPSU demanded institution of an inquiry to unearth the entire episode and fix the responsibility on the officers concerned.
AAPSU further demanded the authority concerned to immediately recover the public money from the person concerned and erring officials should be punished.
The apex student organization also demanded the authority to immediately replace the incumbent director because decisions on all important matters keep on pending under his stewardship.
Moreover, the government has failed to run properly the government department/ machinery. Food & Civil Supply, being one of the important departments, the government should initiate immediate measures for smooth functioning of the department, it added.

Election related meeting held at Yupia and Aalo
ITANAGAR, Mar 3: The DEO cum Deputy Commissioner Papum Pare district Tai Kaye hold a review meeting of election in his Chamber at Yupia today.
The meeting was attended by the administrative officers designated as ERO, AEROs and staffs of election department to review and discuss the preparedness of forthcoming Lok Sabha election 2014. Briefing the importance of Govt functionaries during the election process he called upon them to be confident and to perform their duties with sincerity and dedication.
While briefing the officers about the need for urgency about the preparation of election, he said as per the direction of the CEO, we to gear up the preparation for ensuing election with full swing so that election can be conducted smoothly and successfully. He also reviewed the detail check list of election related matters pertaining to manpower management, mobility and accessibility of various polling stations located in sensitive, availability of electioneering equipments like EVMs.
Aalo: As a part of its preparedness to the ensuing Parliamentary election, an elaborate training to administrative and all election related officers was held under the chairmanship of Aalo ADC Moki Loyi here on February 28 last.
Chairing the meet, Loyi said that Parliamentary Election is a massive exercise and all election related officers are directly under the requisition of Election Commission to discharge all assigned duties and responsibilities to ensure conduct of a free and fair election. He exhorted all officers to handle sensitive duties as per the guidelines set by the Election Commission.
In the power point presentation Moki Loyi dwelt elaborately Postal Ballot Management, EDC, SVEEP, Role of BLOs and Nodal Officers in the conduct of poll. Dege Ete stressed on dispatch, retrievement of polling parties, movement plan, model code of conduct, paid news election expenditure monitoring and communication plan. Murnya Kakki gave a detail briefing on EVM & VVPAT hands on, poll day arrangement & matters related polling personnel and Henrik Basar spoke on the role of sector officers, zonal magistrate and role of micro observer, the detail of voting procedure, duties and responsibilities of polling team, mock poll and video showing. Vocational training on intermediary service providers concludes
ITANAGAR, Mar 03: Developing service providers among the farmers has been the need of the hour, especially in the remote countryside where field extension functionaries cannot reach to serve the needy farmers, said Papum Pare Krishi Vigyan Kendra Programme Coordinator Dr. T Heli. He was addressing the closing ceremony of the vocational training on intermediary service providers at Karsingsa on February 26 last organized by Papum Pare KVK in collaboration with Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI), Doimukh under sponsorship of Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA).
Dr. Teli informed that these trained service providers could serve as the community mobilizers in their respective villages thereby serving as the department’s agents for out reaching the appropriate technologies for augmenting crop productivity in farmers’ fields.
RSETI Director PB Chetry informed that these participants have been fine tuned towards entrepreneurship development so that they could earn their livelihood by serving the fellow farmers when they go back to their respective villages. He also informed that the service providers’ course will be included under the skill development programme under RSETI in the next action plan of his institute. He suggested the participants to avail bank loans under agri business through Kisan Credit Cards (KCC).
The inquisitive participants Taba Path of Hunglo village under Toru circle expressed satisfaction with the courses offered during the training period.
Mudang Butang, Director (Agri. Marketing) called upon the participants to disseminate the knowledge gained during the programme and serve their fellow farmers by acting as a hinge between their farmers group and state department.
Dr. H Tabin, Director, Anima Husbandry and Veterinary, TD Neckom, DAO, Development, Dr. Minge Loyi, District AH& V Officer), Dr. J Panor, manager, Pig Farm, Techi Taura, ADO (HQ) and subject matter specialists of the KVK among others attended the programme.
Earlier, Tilling Tabyo, Course coordinator highlighted the concepts of the service providers’ course and the approaches made by the Kendra to get the genuine participants of the said training programme to be selected by their own farmers’ groups.
The programme ended with the distribution of certificates to the participants.
All together 15 participants from different circles of the Papum Pare district attended the training.
Job Mela held at Khonsa and Changlang
ITANAGAR, March 03: The 2nd job mela for Tirap and Longding districts was held on March 1 at Nehru Stadium at Khonsa in which altogether 408 job seekers enthusiastically participated.
Addressing the participants, Tirap Deputy Commissioner Kamlesh Kumar Joshi passionately appealed the job seekers to come out of their cocoon and look at the big world outside which is full of avenues, opportunities and possibilities. He told them to go outside the state and explore job opportunities as it was not possible to provide jobs to all by the state government. He asked the job providers to adhere to the norms and guidelines strictly as enshrined in the government notification to avoid future complicacies. Later P. Arangham, DDI handed over the already registered candidates to all the VTPs and also threw light on the scopes for the youths in the job mela.

Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Changlang Isha khosla urged upon all the aspiring candidates from the district to avail full advantage of the Mela. While dwelling on the importance of the training she stated that it will not only make them skilled but also give them a broader out look through good exposure. She lauded the Govt for the initiatives and hoped that this would help curving the rising unemployment problem in the district. She further asked the candidates present to be very cautious while the opting the trade of their choice and called upon all to complete the training with utmost sincerity.
Earlier, DDI Changlang deliberated on the conditions of the job Mela amongst the candidates.

State level training for extension functionaries concludes
ITANAGAR, Mar 03: The five days training on organic farming and soil health management for sustainable agriculture in the state for the extension functionaries of line departments and KVKs concluded at College of Horticulture and Forestry, Pasighat on February 28.

to you? We only eat wild fruits and suck nectar. We do not destroy your crops. We
are scared of you. If some of us eat your crops by mistake, please pardon us. We
are harmlessly ignorant. We do not know your society’s norms. We help you by eating
the insects, worms and pests that destroy your precious crops. We can’t come near
you. You are always ready to shoot us down. We love you all. We harbour no hatred
or enmity against. Teach your children to love us and allow us to live with dignity.
The world without us will be prosaic and not worth-
I can vouch that no amount of wild animals’ meat can compensate the joy, the thrill,
the happiness I derive from watching the magnificent wild creatures roaming freely
in our jungles. Some one has rightly said that if our people like to savour meat
why don’t they take beef, mutton, chicken and pork which are so readily available
in the market? They are reared for this purpose. Why destroy the beautiful wildlife?
Please remember that the wild animals’ meat doesn’t have any special food value or
curative effect. The lovely wild creatures were not created by us. So, we have no
right to annihilate them. Why are we vigorously pursuing the few wild animals left
in our jungles and shoot them down? Many exotic wild animals have indeed become things
of the past as they are not seen any more. It’s indeed sad to observe that the new
generation may not have inherited the skills of folk singing, folkdances etc but
it has successfully inherited the deadly art of hunting from their forefathers. Today,
hunting is a great passion amongst even the educated Arunachalees. Imagine this beautiful
world without the presence of these lovely birds and animals. Life would be indeed
prosaic and not worth-
Believers pray for amicable solution to boundary dispute
ITANAGAR, Mar 03: The Christian brethren of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh organized a mass prayer for an amicable solution to the boundary disputes between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh during the first ever Inter Denomination Prayer Festival cum Healing Crusade held at Boroi Tea Estate general Ground Sonitpur district Assam from February 28 to March 2.
The Prayer Festival with the theme “Those who are lead by the spirit of God are the children of God” (Romans,8:14) was held at was attended by renowned international Gospel Preacher Evan Dr. Joram Dol from Arunachal Pradesh and Rev. Jeremiah Basu Motary from Guwahati, Assam.
In his speech, Dr. Joram encouraged the gathering to be the ambassadors of Jesus

The second edition of Arunachal Film Festival (AFF) ended yesterday. The three days festival concluded with screening of the film ‘Crossing the Bridges’ by Sange Dorjee at Sidhartha Hall. The festival featured still photography, short films, documentaries and feature films of different genres. Though festival had its own shortcoming, but, there is no doubt that with each passing year it is becoming popular among ardent moviegoers.

The news item published on 1st March in your paper with the headline “Assam students
seek amicable solution to boundary row” was quite attractive till the second paragraph.
But right after the second paragraph there is lot of blunder and misguiding statements
from the AASU. I believe that AASU is one of the most matured student organizations
not only in Assam but in the entire north-
The Govt. of India Act 1914 recognized the boundary of then Frontier tract from Akajan
which is 12 km away from the Likabali town. There was a NEFA gate at Akajan which
is now totally under the control of Dhemaji district in Assam. In the gate it was
written “NEFA begins from here” which was destroyed in 2011 and a dedication to the
BRO staff has been erected thereafter. The first time national flag hoisting in Arunachal
Pradesh(the then Frontier Tract) was hoisted by Lt.Moji Riba and Lt. Mojii Riba at
Dipa Lire in 1947 which is now occupied by the Assam and renamed as Somkong village
under Jonai Sub-
It is a great matter of thought and shame for we the Arunachalee people that why are we always ready to suffer under the dominance of Assam in fear of Road blockade or Economic blockade? Are there no any other solutions other than fearing for National Highway Blockade by our counterpart? Is the Arunachal Govt. being a part and parcel of India not ready to take up the issue and fight in the centre? Is the Govt. of Arunachal not willing to bring a permanent solution to the problem being faced by the entire state due to boundary issues? The Govt. of Arunachal should take serious steps like construction of Highways directly connecting all the districts of Arunachal with the capital complex without touching even an inch of Assam land. The state should pressure the centre to open international cross border trades with Bhutan, Myanmar and if necessary even with China also. The state should create small airports directly connecting Delhi which should provide minimal fare travel to Arunachalees. If these three steps are taken up in future then its sure that not a single inch of Arunachal Land will be occupied by the Assam as there would be no guts pushing them ahead.

Through your esteemed daily, I as a concern citizen and consumer would like to raise my voice against the ongoing trend of exploiting customers by the trading community. A Classic example is that shopkeepers sell BSNL top up at higher rate than printed MRP, like Rs 55 card is sold at Rs 60, Rs 110 card at Rs 120. When enquired about such malpractices almost all the shopkeeper in capital complex replied “yaha toh sab aisa hi leta hai”. Whereas in towns like Aalo and Ziro traders charge not a penny more than the MRP. When towns which are situated far away from capital and main stream can charge what is right then what’s WRONG with the capital traders? Where is the moral of this trading community?
What is the concern authority like BSNL, Legal meteorology, Consumer affairs, DC
of capital complex, Bazar Welfare etc doing? It seems from general public point
of view that authorities have turned their eyes & ear off!! It is a sincere appeal
of the general public to all the traders “charge what is Right and NOT what you want
and others do”, & to the concern authorities “ Do what is Right & Just & NOT what
you or others think”, & to the general public “ pay NO penny extra of your hard earned
money”. BSNL recharge card is just one of those many which are hurting general public
on daily basis. We are a welfare state and we must work for the welfare of the society.
